Overview
Metal film resistors are those resistors that have a metallic film as the resistive element coated on top of a high purity ceramic core. The term metal film resistor normally applies to the axial leaded components, although thin film surface mount chip resistors also use the same concept. Read More
The thickness of the metal film is key to the resistance and stability of the resistor. The connection leads flow axially out through both ends of the resistor. The resistance of metal film resistors depends on the material, thickness and width of the helical metal film.
The most popular metal film options are Nickel-Chromium (NiCr) and Tin-Antimony. Gold-Platinum and Tantalum nitride are used as metal films in special applications.
Typical tolerance of metal film resistors are 0.1%, 0.25%, 0.5% , 1% and 2%. The temperature coefficient of resistance is usually between 50 and 100ppm/K.
Advantages of Metal film resistors include low cost, low noise, wide operating range, small size, stability and tolerance.
Metal film resistors are used extensively in :
KWK Metal film Resistors have high tolerance, and very low temperature coefficient of resistance. Furthermore, the resistors feature low noise properties and a high linearity because of a low voltage coefficient.
