Overview
A variable resistor is one whose electrical resistance value can be adjusted based on the requirement. It generally consists of an electro-mechanical transducer. Read More
It works by sliding contact (wiper) over a resistive element. The active resistance value of the variable resistor depends upon the position of the slider contact on the resistance track.
Variable resistors are mostly used when the user does not know before-hand what exact resistance value does he wants.
There are several types of variables resistors such as Potentiometer, Rheostat, Thermistor, Magneto resistor, Photoresistor, Humistor, Force sensitive resistor. Of these potentiometers and rheostats are the most commonly used.
A potentiometer is a variable resistor used as a potential divider with 3 terminals. When only two terminals are used, it functions as a variable resistance called a rheostat.
Variable resistors in one of the above types are used in :
KWK Rheostats are ideal for lab applications and test benches. They come with IP20 protection. KWK offers resistors with diverse construction and mounting options to suit customer specific requirements.
KWK has a partnership with KRAH group, Germany and the Widap Group, Switzerland who are market leaders in the automotive and industry segment respectively.
All our products are ROHS (Restriction of the Use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) compliant.
