Overview
Dynamic Braking Resistors are used to achieve rapid slow down or to completely stop electric motors. The braking process must happen within a very small response time and with high efficiency. Read More
The additional energy generated during the braking process can be dealt with in 2 ways. The energy may be dissipated as heat through the resistors (Rheostatic braking). Or it may be returned to the supply lines (Regenerative braking).
Dynamic braking reduces the wear-and-tear of the mechanical components due to rapid braking, when compared with friction braking mechanisms especially when heavy loads are involved.
The brake resistor is selected on the basis of the motor rating, amount of energy to be dissipated and the braking duty cycle. It also depends on the specific application.
Dynamic braking resistors are widely used in:
KWK Resistors has expertise to compute and design customised application specific resistors that are particularly good at handling high pulsed powers. Dynamic Braking Resistors from KWK come with varied resistance, power and current ratings. KWK Resistors also require very little service and maintenance.
These heavy-duty resistors are designed to be rugged so as to withstand heavy loads and frequent start-stop cycles. Resistors come in different form factors like edge-wound and wire-wound resistors.
