Overview
In electrical circuits involving energy storage devices, current continues to flow even after the main supply lines are powered off. This is because of discharge from capacitors and/or inductors. The actual current that flows depends on the charge stored in these devices. Read More
During maintenance of these circuits and equipments, the internal charge is safely and quickly drained by connecting a suitable resistor in parallel to these capacitors and other charged devices. These resistors are called “Discharge Resistors”
The amount of resistance in these resistors, referred to as discharge resistance, is computed based on two key parameters:
The resistors used to discharge capacitors are called “capacitor discharge resistor”.
In most electrical circuits and devices, the discharge is triggered automatically during maintenance cycles to avoid human error/oversight.
Discharge resistors are extensively used in capacitors, batteries and other voltage carrying devices. Here it is it is tremendously important that voltage does not pose a risk to humans and equipment.
Discharge resistors need careful designing to manage the huge energy impulses and high voltages associated with their application. KWK has proven expertise, design knowledge and experience to manufacture discharge resistors that suit multiple applications.
KWK has a wide range of compact discharge resistors in the product portfolio that can handle voltages up to 1200V without any additional controls due to self-regulating heating elements.
