Overview
Current limiting resistors, as the name suggests, are used to limit the current that is delivered to a device in an electric circuit. Many electrical appliances are very sensitive to the amount of current they can withstand. Any excess current flowing through these devices could damage them. Read More
Typically, an electrical switch is connected in series to the equipment to be protected. Current limiting resistors are connected in parallel to the switch. Under normal working conditions, the switch is turned on which allows the full load current through. When a fault occurs, triggering an excess current in the circuit, the switch is turned off and the excess current is diverted through the current limiting resistor .
The resistance value of these resistors is tuned specifically to the devices they intend to protect. Current sense resistors are made from materials that have a negative temperature coefficient.
Current limiting resistors are also used in applications such as:
A popular example is using current limiting resistors for LED bulbs. A few milli ohm of extra current is sufficient to damage these bulbs. Current limiting resistors are crucial for maintaining the current flowing to the LED bulb within the ambient limits that is required for the LED bulb.
KWK resistors come in various configuration and packaging that can be tuned for any specific customer’s needs. All our products are ROHS (Restriction of the Use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) compliant.
